DISTRIBUTION: This species is unmistakable for any other British species, and is well distributed throughout the British Isles.

 

LENGTH: 12mm to 15mm.                                                     STATUS: Resident.

 

FLIGHT PERIOD: Adult beetles can be seen from around April throughout the summer until late September.

 

LARVAL PERIOD: No data.

 

HABITAT: This species inhabits wood land, and occasionally other rural places.

 

FOOD PLANT/S: Both the adult and the larvae feed on other insects in dung, and also on carrion and rotting fungi.
