DISTRIBUTION: This beetle is not as common as it used to be, and is well distributed on heaths and moors throughout most of the British Isles.

 

LENGTH: 12mm to 15mm                             STATUS: Resident.

     

FLIGHT PERIOD: This species is around from May to October..

LARVAL PERIOD: Most of the year, in underground burrows.

HABITAT: These beetles are usually on dry sandy, and chalk soils, heather moor land and heaths. They like warm sunny to hot weather.

FOOD Source: Other invertebrates, including ants, spiders and caterpillars..
