DISTRIBUTION: This species is one of many beetles of the group known as soldier beetles. The species is fairly common over most of England and Wales.

 

LENGTH: 9mm to 13mm                                         STATUS: Resident.

     

FLIGHT PERIOD: This species is to be found from May through to August, or early September,

LARVAL PERIOD: No data.

HABITAT: These beetles inhabit most open flowery, and or grassy areas.

FOOD Source: These beetles eat other small insects, as well as pollen and nectar.

 

SIMILAR SPECIES: There are many similar beetles, however this species can be separated from the others by the reddish femora, and the black spot in the middle of the pronotum.
