DISTRIBUTION: This moth is fairly widespread and reasonably common over much of England and Wales. In Ireland it is more localised, in Scotland its distribution is erratic and it is recorded as far north as Ross-shire.

 

WING SPAN: 40 to 44mm.                                    STATUS: Resident.

 

FLIGHT PERIOD: Late May to early August.         LARVAL PERIOD: July to September.

 

HABITAT: Woodland, commons, parks, suburban gardens, hedgerows and other places where the food plants grow.

 

FOOD PLANT/S: Mainly Black Poplar and Aspen, but occasionally on other species of Poplar and Willow.
