DISTRIBUTION:
This moth was first
recorded in Devon during 1908, and was probably an accidental import with
plants from Australia. It has become quite common in some southern parts
of England. In more recent years its range has expanded north to
Lancashire, and Yorkshire.
WING
SPAN:
13mm to 15mm. STATUS:
Resident.
FLIGHT PERIOD: This
colourful moth is on the wing from May through until September, possibly
in two overlapping broods. They fly mainly after dark, and are attracted
to light.
LARVAL PERIOD:
Caterpillars are to be found
from June through to about October.
HABITAT:
They inhabit most places where there are tree's and bushes.
FOOD PLANT/S:
Caterpillars feed withered leaves and leaf litter.
SIMILAR SPECIES:
None that are very similar.
